Maloum referral program: how it works
Written by Sophia Brecht Published Last updated
The Maloum referral program pays you 5% of the earnings of creators who sign up through your link and become active. According to Maloum’s help centre this runs for six months per referred person, and Maloum pays the commission on top, so the people you bring in give up nothing. There are no written terms, and elsewhere the same help article says »dauerhaft« (permanently). Checked on 1 October 2026.
How does the Maloum referral program work?
Your referral link is simply the address of your own profile. Anyone who signs up through it then has to send one short message to the account maloum.official and name your username as the person who referred them.
The process in four steps:
- You give the address of your Maloum profile to someone who wants to become a creator.
- They register through that link and go through the usual creator verification.
- Once signed up, they write to maloum.official one time and give your username.
- Only then does Maloum connect the two of you, and your commission starts once they become active.
Step 3 is the one people forget. Without that message Maloum has no idea the two of you are linked, and according to the help centre a click on your link is not enough by itself. Maloum describes the process in its help article on the referral program, last changed on 3 July 2026.
How much does the Maloum referral program pay?
5% of the referred person’s earnings, for six months according to the help centre. On its homepage Maloum stresses that referred creators keep »weiterhin ihre vollen Einnahmen« (their full earnings); your reward comes on top and is paid by Maloum.
Which earnings are meant is left open. Maloum does not say whether the 5% is worked out on revenue before or after its own 20% commission, nor what becoming active means. A quick example shows why that matters: if a creator you referred generates €1,000 in creator revenue in a month and €800 of it is paid out to her, your commission is either €50 or €40, depending on the reading. Over six months the gap adds up.

Does the commission last six months or permanently?
We work with six months. The help article names that period explicitly, yet a few lines further down it says you profit »dauerhaft«, permanently, from the referred person’s revenue, and the homepage gives no duration at all.
No earlier version of the article was archived, so there is no way to tell whether different terms applied before. If you are counting on a longer period, have support confirm it in writing before you quote a figure to anyone.
Are there written terms for the referral program?
No. The creator terms in the version of 9 July 2026 contain no clause on it. Everything known about the program comes from the homepage and a single help article.
That has consequences. Maloum has to announce changes to the creator terms four weeks in advance, while no notice period is published for a help article. On the day you refer someone, take screenshots of the article and note when the person messaged maloum.official. Referral commissions belong in your bookkeeping too; how to record them is for you and your tax adviser to settle. What Maloum expects from creators on tax is collected in the post on Maloum taxes.
Can agencies use the referral program to recruit creators?
Any creator may share their own profile link. Recruiting creators on Maloum for agency, management or other services, on the other hand, is expressly banned by the terms (§8.2.8).
Anyone who messages you on Maloum to win you over as an agency client is breaking the platform’s rules, with or without a referral link. That is why we never contact anyone through Maloum. If you want to work with us, you find us through this website and send an application. Other signs of a questionable approach are listed under Maloum agency red flags.
Who is the program worth it for?
Creators who know people planning to start on Maloum anyway. Maloum does not publish what referrers typically earn.
If you recommend Maloum to someone, tell them about the obligations as well. Creators have to be business owners (Unternehmer) and prove it, for example with a VAT ID (UID-Nummer), and Maloum allows itself two weeks to review a creator application. Knowing that in advance makes for a more realistic start.
As income, the program remains a bonus. What it pays depends on what the referred person earns in their first months, and that is out of your hands. Your own income from subscriptions, chat and the shop is easier to plan; the post on making money on Maloum puts those in context, and getting fans on Maloum shows how to build reach of your own.
